Such an intriguing start! But I will be most upset if this short story doesn’t have a happy ending. 😭 But while I wait to see, I’m laughing out loud and loving seeing grownup Elliot.

Loved this first part! Mark is really fun to read and I love the glimpses to this other culture that was only mentioned in passing during In Other Lands. It was great seeing Elliot again being both the same and grown-up.
Algo, I finished re-reading In Other Lands (my favorite book ever) a couple of days ago just to read these short stories with it fresh i my mind and I loved to see the little refrences to the book like when Elliot says to prefer try to reason with the troll and to learn their language if you can't speak it.
