It’s that time of year at The Sunday Morning Transport offices — we’re pulling out the sweaters and the squash recipes, and delighting in the amazing new science fiction, fantasy, and (hey, it is the season!) spooky stories for this coming month.
We’re also marking our second year of treats (no tricks!) planned for you, our readers, as well as five new stories!
First up, on October 1, John Chu’s superlative academic battle in “Halfway Between Albany and West Point.” If you haven’t read it yet, head over there next!
We are honestly not sure exactly how to describe Leslie What’s “The Inventor We May Learn Is More of a Conceptual Artist in Part Seven,” coming your way on October 8, except to say that it is wonderful, strange, and amazing. See for yourself.
On October 15, “Redemption Weather,” a high-flying story by Christopher Rowe will sweep you away.
October 22 brings us Marty Cahill’s “We Will Witness,” an incredible story of far-reaching empathy and a fighter’s final moments.
And, finally, in time for Halloween on October 29, Zoe Bellerive’s “Mother Tongue” captivates even as it delivers on the spooky chills.
As always, we want to celebrate how you, our readers, support our authors, both with your comments and by sharing the stories you love and telling others about The Sunday Morning Transport. Our goals to bring new short stories to the world and to support short fiction depend on you!
There are several additional ways you can support our authors and their work:
— Share the Sundays: If you know of someone who would enjoy The Sunday Morning Transport, please do recommend us, share a trial subscription link with them, or even gift them a subscription — we love to get the word out about our amazing authors and their stories.
— Recommend stories: If you are able, please suggest your favorite stories for Nebula and Hugo reading lists, as well as everywhere you can — there are so many great stories, and we’d love to see them get additional recognition!
— Participate in the comments (authors love to see them and so do we!) and keep an eye out for an open thread or two, coming soon.
We’ll be at World Fantasy Convention in Kansas City later this month — will you? Shout out in the comments, or come find us, as Fran will host another authors and readers meetup. (We will definitely be handing out glorious Kathleen Jennings-designed Sunday Morning Transport stickers all weekend.)
Meantime, thank you for sharing your love of great short stories with the Sunday Morning Transport — through your subscriptions (great to give as a gift!) and your enthusiasm for what we do here.
All our best for the month of October,
Julian, Fran, Kaitlin, Christine, and Devin
