Hi everyone, welcome to February!

We’d like to extend a warm welcome to all the new readers who joined us in January during our membership drive!

We hope you all enjoyed January’s stories, especially our first two-part story, by Sarah Rees Brennan, and new stories by Benjamin Kinney, and Natalie C. Parker. We can’t wait to show you everything else we have in store for the coming year.

We begin February this coming Sunday with Yoon Ha Lee’s “The Ethnomusicology of the Last Dreadnought,” a beautiful, dark piece of fiction about a starship and the music it once made. On February 12, Marissa Lingen’s “Exiled to Gravity,” reveals how a life can be changed by the narratives of others, and how it can’t. The fantastic voices of Rachel Hartman’s “Ghost Story,” materializes on February 19, and will stay with you for a long time after. On February 26, Rick Wilber’s “To the Mean,” transports us to both the past and the future in this epic story of connection.

February will also bring us our first 2023 Irregulars chat — with Sarah Rees Brennan! That is scheduled for February 16th, and we’ll send a link and more details to paid subscribers closer to the event. We’re excited to chat with her about “Tears Waiting to Be Diamonds,” what it was like to revisit the Other Lands, and her upcoming novel — and hope you will be as well.

Congratulations to Kat Howard, Yoon Ha Lee, Kij Johnson, and Meg Elison, whose fantastic Sunday Morning Transport stories from last year appear on the Locus 2022 Recommended list! We are so thrilled at the reception our authors’ stories are seeing out in the world, and how many of you are excited to share the ones you love with others.

Elsewhere, I (Julian) have just wrapped up work on a new project beyond The Sunday Morning Transport: I’m extremely excited to announce that the very first creative project I ever worked on, Bookburners (written by Sunday Morning Transport authors Max Gladstone, Margaret Dunlap, Mur Lafferty, Andrea Philips (coming soon!), and Brian Francis Slattery, and narrated by the incredible Xe Sands) is about to make its debut as a podcast! You can listen to the trailer here, and listen to the whole series on February 14th where you normally get your podcasts.

Meantime, Fran spent most of the first weeks of the new year teaching in Montpelier, VT, for the Vermont College of Fine Arts Writing for Children and Young Adults MFA winter residency — she’s thawing out now that she’s returned home, and was thrilled to spend time with amazing new writers, listening to fantastic stories.
