Hello and welcome to August!
This month, we bring you four new stories from across the speculative realms. On Sunday, August 6, Eugenia Triantafyllou’s beautiful “Always Be Returning,” will transport all our readers to mythical and strikingly heartfelt shores. That’s the free-for-all story this month. For paying readers, on August 13, Stephanie Burgis’ most excellent “Yours, Wickedly: A Story in Thirteen Letters” turns a misdirected parcel into a glorious [redacted] (you’ll find out soon!). Ellen Klages’ much lauded “Echoes of Aurora” appears in digital reprint for the first time on August 20, and E. Lily Yu’s startling, gorgeous “Alphabet of Swans” reveals itself on August 27.
In addition, paid supporters will receive an interview with Sturgeon Award finalist Annalee Newitz, and (later this month) the delivery of our first Selected Stories e-anthology — we’ll provide a Dropbox access point.
Meanwhile, we’ve provided a preorder link here and below for free subscribers who would like a copy, and for friends who aren’t yet ready to subscribe (we hope you are able to soon). The Sunday Morning Transport: Selected Stories 2022 is now available for preorder at Weightless Books!
In exciting news, we are buzzing with delight for Kat Howard and “Telling the Bees,” which was announced as a World Fantasy Finalist just last week. Congratulations to all the finalists!
If you’re planning to be in Kansas City for World Fantasy at the end of October, let us know. Managing Editor Fran Wilde will be there, as will many of our authors, and we are hoping to arrange a get together with our readers, as we did last year.
Speaking of last year, at this time, we were celebrating the arrival of Emmy Yap, who is newly turned one, and our one thousandth subscriber. THIS August, we are delighted to report that we are about to celebrate our three thousandth subscriber, which is something that brings us great joy.
We’re so excited to keep sharing stories with you, and we’ve got some exciting things up our sleeves for the fall. Thank you for continuing on this journey with us, for sharing your favorite stories with friends and family (and wherever your social media is taking you), for talking about The Sunday Morning Transport, giving gift subscriptions, and supporting us in any way you are able — it makes a huge difference, and in turn allows us to make a difference for our authors, and you, our readers. Thank you for joining us on the journey!
All our best for the month of August,
Fran, Julian, Devin, Kaitlin, & Christine

Ooh, such rich bounty! And I would walk a million miles to read anything by E. Lily Yu.
Hi Penn - free subscribers receive one story a month - the first story of the month - as well as the free stories in our archives and those made available during July and January. That’s 40 free stories since we started the Sunday Morning Transport in January 2022.
To read subscribers stories, you can become a monthly or annual subscriber as well.
Give me a sec to get back to my desk and I’ll clarify in the text - thank you for your question!
